The Old Waterworks (TOW) is an artist-led charity in Southend-on-Sea that provides studios, facilities, and research and development opportunities for artists.
TOW is home to studios occupied by artists living in and around Southend. They have a research library which houses the Grrrl Zine Library and hosts the Agency of Visible Women’s (AoVW) weekly meetings, and a risograph printer where TOW provides a service for small-run DIY publications, workshops and low cost printing. The library was the result of my first commission as director of TOW, where I invited AoVW and Grrrl Zine Fair to work with TOW to develop a space that serves as a local resource for artists, students and the broader community, featuring material otherwise hard to access in and around Southend. On Wednesday evenings in TOW’s screening room the White Bus Cinema hosts archive film screenings on their 16mm and 35mm projectors.
I was director (2018 - 2022) and co-director (2022 - 2023).
